NFF President Ibrahim Gusau Faces Criticism and Scrutiny

Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is under intense scrutiny following the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons' elimination from the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Critics accuse his administration of creating a toxic environment that neglects talent in favor of bureaucratic interests.

The National Sports Commission, led by Shehu Dikko, has intervened by pausing the NFF's scheduled elections and considering a three-month Normalisation Committee. Additionally, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission have initiated investigations into the N12bn Federal Government intervention fund allocated for players' wages and bonuses, approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024.

Allegations have surfaced regarding the misuse of these funds, with some officials already providing statements to investigators. Gusau's leadership is now precariously positioned amid these challenges.
