ICPC Charges El-Rufai and Aide Over N8.6bn Fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai and his ex-aide Jimi Lawal over allegations of fraud related to an N8.6 billion CCTV surveillance contract. The charges were presented before Justice Hauwa U.
Buhari at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, under case number FHC/KD/93C/2026. The ICPC's statement indicated that El-Rufai, as governor, approved the contract for the procurement, planning, and installation of a CCTV surveillance system in Kaduna metropolis, which was awarded to Singular Network Security Limited.
The commission alleged that the company lacked the requisite experience and qualifications for the contract. Furthermore, it was claimed that El-Rufai and Lawal received and possessed funds exceeding N2 billion from 2017 to 2022 through suspicious transactions.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty, and the case was adjourned until July 1, 2026.
