ICPC Clarifies Status of El-Rufai's Remand Order

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) issued a statement on March 17, 2026, to debunk reports suggesting it sought a fresh remand order for former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. ICPC's head of media and public communication, John Odei, explained that the commission appeared in court to hear an application filed by El-Rufai on March 6, 2026, which sought to overturn a remand order granted on March 5, 2026.

The court had previously allowed the ICPC to detain El-Rufai for 14 days to investigate allegations of money laundering and abuse of office. Following the expiration of the initial order, the ICPC applied for a further 14-day extension, which the court granted.

The hearing for El-Rufai's application was adjourned to March 31, 2026, to give his legal team sufficient time to respond. The ICPC emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and avoiding media trials, urging the public to rely on official updates.
