ICPC Detains Nasir el-Rufai Ahead of Corruption Trial

On April 10, 2023, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai was detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) shortly before proceeding to the Federal High Court in Kaduna. This detention occurred as el-Rufai faces trial for alleged corrupt practices.

His bail application was heard, and the court has reserved its ruling until April 14, 2023. The ICPC officials whisked el-Rufai away in a vehicle towards Abuja after the hearing.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had heavily deployed security personnel around the court premises, which sparked speculation regarding el-Rufai's arrest. His defense counsel, Oluwol Iyamu, confirmed that the court reserved its decision on the bail application and expressed optimism for a favorable outcome.

El-Rufai was previously arraigned at the Kaduna State High Court alongside Amadu Sule on separate charges related to abuse of office and fraud.
