Aichat El-Rufai Sues ICPC for N2 Billion Defamation

Aichat El-Rufai, the wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has initiated a N2 billion defamation lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The legal action follows a public statement released by the ICPC on May 18, 2026, which Aichat claims contains defamatory remarks that have harmed her reputation.

The ICPC spokesperson, John Odei, stated that they have not yet received the details of the lawsuit. Aichat's legal representatives argue that the ICPC's statements misrepresented her actions and portrayed her as dishonest, thereby damaging her public image.

The notice demands a public apology from the ICPC, publication of the retraction in three national newspapers, and assurance that no similar statements will be made in the future. The legal team has indicated that if the ICPC fails to comply within 14 days, they will commence legal proceedings against the commission.
