ICPC Files New Charges Against El-Rufai Over CCTV Fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed fresh criminal charges against former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and seven others, alleging fraud and money laundering related to an ₦8.68 billion CCTV security project. The charges consist of 11 counts and were filed in the Federal High Court in Kaduna on April 17.

The allegations state that El-Rufai approved the award of the CCTV contract in December 2015, despite claims of the company lacking the required competence. The ICPC alleges that substantial sums were transferred between 2017 and 2022 to individuals and companies linked to the project, including Singular Network Security Limited.

Other notable figures mentioned include former Kaduna State Commissioner Jimi Lawal and El-Rufai's son, Bashir El-Rufai. This marks the third set of charges against El-Rufai, who is already facing separate corruption-related cases involving state projects, including a light rail contract.
