ICPC Calls for Reforms in Nigeria's Health and Education Sectors

On Monday in Abuja, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) urged for sustained reforms in Nigeria's health and education sectors, emphasizing that preventing corruption is vital for enhancing public service delivery. This call was made during the presentation of several reports, including the Follow-up System Review Report on the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), and corruption risk assessments on the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), stated that the reviews assessed the implementation of prior recommendations, identified progress, and highlighted areas needing further reforms.

He noted that resilient institutions based on transparency and accountability are essential for protecting public resources. The reports indicated encouraging progress but also pointed out outstanding recommendations requiring commitment.

Dr. Eze Onyekpere from the Centre for Social Justice identified persistent corruption risks and recommended stronger inter-agency collaboration and digital technology deployment.

Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, praised the ICPC's preventive approach.
