ICPC Urges Reforms in Nigeria's Education and Health Sectors

On Monday, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) presented corruption risk assessment reports focused on Nigeria's health and education sectors during a public event in Abuja. ICPC chairman, Dr.

Musa Adamu Aliyu, described this initiative as a significant milestone in the commission's preventive anti-corruption strategy, aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and service delivery. He stressed that the assessments should lead to actionable reforms rather than remaining as mere reports.

The assessments identified various corruption risks, including leakages in health insurance payments, diversion of medical supplies, ghost workers, procurement irregularities, and abandoned school projects. Dr.

Aliyu highlighted the importance of digital transformation in preventing corruption, stating that technology enhances transparency and operational efficiency. The Centre for Social Justice, led by Eze Onyekpere, collaborated with the ICPC, supported by the European Union-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme, to review the implementation of previous recommendations.
