ICPC Sets Bail Conditions for Ex-Gov El-Rufai in Corruption Case

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has revealed the bail conditions for former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, who is embroiled in a corruption case. The Federal High Court in Kaduna granted him bail set at 200 million Naira, requiring two sureties of the same amount.

Additional conditions include the deposit of his international passport with the court registrar and regular reporting to the ICPC headquarters. El-Rufai is also prohibited from interfering with the prosecution and must remain in the custody of the ICPC until the bail conditions are fulfilled.

The charges against him stem from a protracted investigation covering the period from 2015 to 2023, involving ten counts against him and co-defendant Joel Adoga. The ICPC alleges that El-Rufai unlawfully received 289,826,998.12 Naira, exceeding the approved sum of 20 million Naira, and that he received 797,900 Naira in a domiciliary account, with knowledge of the funds' unlawful origins.

Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
