Former Stock Verifier Sentenced for False Drug Certification

Williams Oluwole, the former Principal Stock Verifier, was convicted by Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, for issuing a false stock verification certificate. The certificate, number CA 0329, was issued in May 2015 for Mubaraq Pharmacy Limited, facilitating a payment of ₦29,996,120 for 5,113 Ribavirin injections and 5,681 Globavirin tablets that had not been delivered.
The ICPC prosecuted Oluwole on two counts, including knowingly furnishing false statements in his official duties, violating Section 16 of Nigeria’s Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. The second count involved a false statement made to Linus Awute, the then Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health.
Justice Halilu sentenced Oluwole to seven years’ imprisonment on Count One and imposed a fine of ₦100,000 on Count Two, directing that he serve his sentence at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
