Lagos Trader and Firms Fined for Selling Fake Drugs

A Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted trader Elijah Chigbogu and two companies, Profile & Well Pharmaceutical Limited and God of Elijah Nigeria Limited, for the possession, importation, and distribution of unregistered drugs. The conviction was announced following their guilty pleas to a four-count charge filed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC).
The offences occurred on July 28, 2025, at their business locations in Idumota and Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos. The drugs involved included various unregistered medications such as Zanza Cyprodine and Calpol 200ml Suspension.
The prosecution, led by NAFDAC counsel Anita Madu, argued that the defendants violated multiple sections of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods Act and the Food, Drugs and Related Products Act. Justice Musa Kakaki sentenced Chigbogu to a fine of N1.5 million after reviewing the plea bargain agreement.
