El-Rufai to Face New Corruption Charges in Kaduna

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is preparing to transfer former Kaduna Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai to Kaduna to face fresh corruption charges. This development, confirmed by senior security officials, comes as El-Rufai remains in custody related to offences under the ICPC.

The specific charges and timeline for the trial have not been disclosed. The latest actions follow a legislative investigation by the Kaduna State House of Assembly into serious irregularities in the handling of state finances during El-Rufai's administration from 2015 to 2023, which led to allegations of financial mismanagement and misappropriation of funds.

Speaker Yusuf Dahiru Liman confirmed that the assembly concluded its investigation and forwarded its findings to relevant authorities. Protests by civil society groups demanding transparency have also occurred.

Current Governor Uba Sani has accused El-Rufai of leaving Kaduna State with a debt of 423 billion naira. El-Rufai has dismissed these allegations as politically motivated.
