Idoma Ruler Nullifies Chieftaincy Titles in Benue State

His Royal Majesty Agaba-Idu Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo John, the President of the Idoma Area Traditional Council and Vice Chairman of the Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers, has nullified chieftaincy titles conferred by the ward head of Akpoge/Ogbilolo community on August 29, 2026. This decision was communicated through a statement by the Secretary of the Idoma Area Traditional Council, Mr. Adegbe Uloko, made available to newsmen in Makurdi on a Tuesday.

The paramount ruler expressed disapproval of the titles' conferment, stating it contradicted the state chieftaincy law of 2016. The statement instructed that any title holder in Idoma Land who participated in the conferment should note that their titles are withdrawn immediately.

The public, government institutions, and traditional stakeholders were directed to disregard these titles, affirming that the Idoma Area Traditional Council is the only legally recognized traditional authority within the Idoma nation, and any contrary actions breach existing laws.
