Three Police Officers Killed by IED in Zamfara Attack

On Monday, three police officers from the Zamfara State Police Command were killed when their armored personnel carrier (APC) struck an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by bandits along the Anka-Bagega road. The incident occurred during a routine security operation targeting armed groups in the area.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal's spokesman, Mugira Yusuf, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday. The officers, who were part of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, were conducting patrols when the APC detonated the explosive device, leading to a fire that destroyed the vehicle.

The deceased officers included EOD Command Officer Abdulrazak Musa Hassan, Inspector Auwal Ahmad, and Inspector Murtala Musa Abubakar. The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the Zamfara State Police Command headquarters in Gusau, expressing condolences and vowing to intensify operations against criminal elements nationwide.

He described the fallen officers as heroes and emphasized the need for collaboration among security agencies.
