Police Deploy DIG for Security in Osun Governorship Election

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has announced the deployment of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ishyaku Mohammed, to Osun State to coordinate security operations for the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. This deployment aims to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, DIG Mohammed will lead the police component of the election security arrangement and collaborate with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security. He will be supported by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police across the state's three senatorial districts.

Disu warned against electoral offences, including ballot snatching and voter intimidation, stating that such actions would lead to immediate arrest and prosecution. The police also reiterated the ban on armed escorts accompanying political figures to polling units and collation centres, emphasizing the commitment to professionalism and the protection of the electoral process.
