Police Investigate Gender-Based Violence in Delta Community

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the Delta State Police Command to investigate incidents of gender-based violence (GBV) that occurred during a traditional festival in Ozoro, Delta State. This directive follows widespread outrage after a video of a physical and sexual assault on young women went viral.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, held consultations with various stakeholders, including traditional leaders and student representatives, to address the issue. During a visit to the Ozoro kingdom, Adesola briefed the traditional ruler, HRM Anthoni Uvietobor Ogbogbo Ibuka, on the investigation's progress.

The police have arrested at least 15 individuals in connection with the incidents, and the state government, represented by Charl Aniagwu, condemned the assaults, emphasizing that such acts are unacceptable and calling for justice. The police are committed to preventing further occurrences of GBV in the state.
