IG Directs Police Trust Fund to Enhance Junior Officers' Welfare

On Thursday, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, called for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to channel welfare interventions specifically toward junior rank officers. This directive comes as junior officers bear the brunt of operational duties across the country.

During a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Disu met with the NPTF Executive Secretary, Alhaji Moham Sheidu, and members of the fund's board of directors to discuss strategies for strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force. Disu emphasized that junior officers, who carry the heaviest operational burden, deserve structured support, including improvements in housing, access to healthcare, and prompt payment of insurance and welfare benefits.

He reaffirmed the commitment to building a technology-driven, citizen-focused Nigeria Police Force. The NPTF's achievements include the delivery of 100 training programs for 13,000 officers and the execution of 170 infrastructure projects nationwide.

The ongoing police reform aims to enhance service delivery and address the welfare needs of officers, particularly those in lower ranks.
