Nigeria Police Disburses N2.4bn to Deceased Officers' Families

The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed a total of N2,435,421,584 in insurance benefits to the next of kin of 1,075 deceased officers as part of its Group Life Assurance and Family Welfare Scheme. The cheque presentation took place on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, led by Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu.

This payment covers outstanding claims from multiple years, including 2018 through 2026. ACP Lydia Ameh, representing the Force Insurance Unit, highlighted that this disbursement reflects the Inspector General's commitment to prioritizing the welfare of officers' families.

The payments are part of efforts to recover long-standing insurance obligations and ensure compliance with insurance providers to prevent future delays. Disu described the occasion as solemn, recognizing the sacrifices made by officers in the line of duty.

He pledged to strengthen the welfare framework and improve administrative processes to eliminate delays in the claims process, leveraging modern technology to enhance transparency and streamline claims.
