IGP Olatunji Disu Visits Niger State After Abductions

On Saturday, October 21, 2023, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu visited Niger State to evaluate the security situation and ongoing rescue efforts after the abduction of worshippers in Dekara District, Borgu Local Government Area. Disu was welcomed by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, along with Commissioner for Homeland Security Maurice Magaji.

A statement from Force Public Relations Officer Ani Iniedu conveyed the IGP's condolences to the state government and victims' families, assuring them of the police's commitment to safely recover the abducted individuals and apprehend the perpetrators. Disu praised the state’s Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, for effective responses and urged officers to maintain intelligence-led operations prioritizing victim safety.

He also directed enhanced inter-agency coordination and community engagement, emphasizing collaboration with traditional and religious leaders. The Deputy Governor commended Disu for his visit and reiterated the state government’s support for police efforts to restore peace and secure the release of the abducted persons.
