Onyendu Umeh Receives Title as Igbo Leader in Japan

Onyendu Chris Brown Umeh, the leader of the Igbo community in Japan, was conferred with the title of ‘Onyendu Ndigbo of Japan’ by the South East Council of Traditional Rulers (SECTR) led by HRM Eze (Dr.) E.C. Okeke in Owerri.

This recognition, based on the recommendation of the Committee on the Regularisation of Igbo Diaspora Traditional Title and Leadership (CRIDTTL), aims to regulate Igbo leadership titles abroad. Umeh, a native of Ezinifitte in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, expressed that this honor endorses his efforts in uniting the Igbo community in Japan and acknowledges his contributions to the development of the South East.

He encouraged Igbos to remember their roots and return home to aid in development, while also addressing the issue of xenophobia faced by Igbos in South Africa. Umeh thanked the SECTR and CRIDTTL for their thorough selection process in appointing credible leaders for Igbo communities worldwide.
