Ohanaeze Ndigbo Bans Unauthorized Igbo Titles Outside Igboland

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, represented by Emmanuel Ofodu, has officially banned the use of unauthorized traditional Igbo titles such as "Ezeigbo" and "Ezendigbo" outside Igboland. This resolution was announced during a press conference held at the group's Edo State secretariat following a general assembly on April 9, 2026.

The organization aims to prevent the establishment of parallel traditional leadership structures that are deemed culturally invalid and inconsistent with prior court rulings, specifically referencing Suit No. B/290/2015.

Ofodu emphasized that individuals or groups involved in unauthorized coronations violate cultural norms and legal pronouncements. The organization also called on security agencies and government authorities to treat unauthorized titles as invalid to avoid inter-community tensions.

Additionally, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide reaffirmed its loyalty to recognized traditional rulers, including the Oba of Benin, and urged the Igbo community in Edo State to operate within a recognized communal framework.
