IGP Disu Advocates for North-West Security Coordination

The Inspector General of Police, Disu, delivered the opening address at the North-West Security Summit held in Gusau, Zamfara State, which was hosted by the Zamfara State Government. The three-day summit gathered governors, traditional rulers, security chiefs, experts, development partners, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders to discuss pressing security issues in the region, such as banditry, kidnapping, arms proliferation, communal conflicts, and farmer-herder tensions.

Disu stated that no single security agency or institution could tackle these challenges alone and urged for strengthened intelligence sharing, coordinated operations across state boundaries, and improved border security. He highlighted the importance of community participation and traditional institutions in crime prevention and intelligence gathering.

The Nigeria Police Force warned against ethnic or religious profiling, asserting that criminality transcends ethnicity and terrorism has no religion. Disu called for the identification and prosecution of criminal networks and their sponsors, reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intelligence-led policing and community partnerships.

He urged participants to ensure the summit yields practical resolutions to enhance security in the North-West.
