IGP Disu Requests Vehicles for Highway Security in Nigeria

On Monday, during a visit to Minister of Works David Umahi in Abuja, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu demanded the provision of patrol and armored vehicles to secure Nigeria's highways. Disu warned that roads lacking security invite crime and highlighted the importance of police presence along the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, which passes through untrodden areas.

He stated that the project would create new economic corridors and reduce crime, as it would facilitate daily commuting for workers. Disu proposed the establishment of special checkpoints along the highway to ensure proper vehicle and passenger checks, citing successful models from other parts of the world.

He also requested the deployment of drones for monitoring long stretches of the road. Umahi praised the project and the efforts of the ministry's team, while Disu expressed gratitude for the support in enhancing security measures for the new infrastructure aimed at boosting trade and tourism in Nigeria.
