IGP Disu Warns Against Recording Police for Skits

On September 9, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu cautioned Nigerians against the practice of recording police officers for social media skits, describing it as "very, very demoralizing" for the police force. Disu made these remarks during a meeting in Abuja with Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, and members of the NBA executive committee, where they discussed improving relations between lawyers and the police.

The police chief expressed concern over a recent court judgment affirming citizens' rights to record police officers performing their duties in public, which he stated had led to an increase in citizens recording officers in various settings, including restaurants. While acknowledging the right of citizens to record police officers in public, Disu urged Nigerians to exercise this right responsibly and with restraint.
