IGP Disu Urges Restraint in Recording Police Officers

The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, addressed concerns regarding Nigerians recording police officers during their duties, stating that such actions are demoralizing. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Disu highlighted a Federal High Court ruling from March 17, 2026, in suit number FHC/WR/CS/87/2025, delivered by Justice H.

A. Nganjiwa, which affirmed that citizens have the constitutional right to record police officers performing public duties in public spaces.

However, Disu expressed that while citizens can exercise this right, they should refrain from turning police officers into content for social media skits, as this can be distracting and embarrassing for officers engaged in challenging work. He emphasized the need for police officers to maintain concentration, especially when operating in dangerous areas.

Disu's comments reflect a balance between upholding citizens' rights and ensuring police officers can effectively perform their duties without unnecessary distractions.
