DeeOne Critiques IGP Disu on Police Recording Comments

Nigerian comedian DeeOne has issued a warning to Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, regarding his comments about citizens recording police officers during duty. Disu suggested that such actions could demoralize police personnel and urged restraint from the public.

DeeOne expressed concern that these statements could escalate tensions between the police and citizens, recalling how viral videos of police misconduct contributed to the End SARS protests in 2020. He argued that citizens should be allowed to document encounters with police for accountability and safety, questioning the inconsistency of allowing police body cameras while restricting public recordings.

DeeOne shared a personal experience at a police station involving an allegedly intoxicated officer to illustrate the need for transparency. He directly addressed Disu, stating, “We no understand you.

You are not doing well,” and urged the IGP to prioritize building trust with the public over trying to impress police members.
