Sowore Promises to Restore Fuel Subsidy if Elected

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress for the 2027 election, stated during an interview on ARISE TV that he would restore fuel subsidy if elected President. He argued that the Federal Government continues to subsidize various aspects of the economy despite the removal of petrol subsidy, claiming that the naira's exchange rate is also being supported through "quiet and secret" subsidies.

Sowore criticized the government's lack of transparency regarding subsidies, asserting that wealthy Nigerians benefit more from these subsidies than the poor. He linked the removal of fuel subsidy to the decline in the naira's value and broader economic challenges in Nigeria.

Sowore emphasized the need to change the "old mentality" that perpetuates poverty and criticized the term "multidimensional poverty" used to describe Nigeria's economic situation. He highlighted food insecurity as a significant issue, noting that Nigeria faces food shortages despite being an oil-producing nation.
