Sowore Promises to Revive Nigeria's Refineries by 2027

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), announced his commitment to restoring Nigeria's four government-owned refineries to full operation if he is elected President in the 2027 general election. During an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Sowore attributed the prolonged failure of the refineries to corruption and mismanagement by successive administrations.

He emphasized that local refining of crude oil would decrease Nigeria's reliance on imported petroleum products, lower costs, and create job opportunities. Sowore stated, “There are four refineries in Nigeria, and I can make them work,” highlighting the significant daily consumption of over 60 million litres.

He also expressed his intention to maintain the petrol subsidy, arguing that it should protect poor Nigerians while addressing corruption in the petroleum sector. Sowore asserted that the government could sustain the subsidy and ensure its benefits reach ordinary citizens, contrasting his approach with those of past leaders who he claims benefited from corruption.
