Wike to Demolish Illegal Structures on Embassy Land

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, condemned the construction of illegal buildings on land allocated to foreign embassies in Abuja. During an inspection tour on Friday, he stated that these illegal structures would be demolished to restore the land for its intended diplomatic use.

Wike highlighted that the plots were originally allocated on March 18, 2008, for various diplomatic missions but were seized and developed without the approval of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA). He listed affected diplomatic missions, including those from Thailand, Bulgaria, Syria, Somalia, Serbia, Montenegro, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Senegal, and Palestine.

Wike ordered the Department of Development Control to demolish the illegal structures and restore the land. He also mentioned that individuals involved in the illegal developments would be arrested and prosecuted.

The minister expressed confidence that ongoing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory would be completed on time, coinciding with the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
