Erondu Denies Name Substitution as APC Candidate for 2027

Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr., the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Abia South Senatorial District, has publicly rejected claims that his name has been unlawfully substituted for the 2027 general election. In a statement dated Saturday, Erondu asserted he is alive and remains the officially nominated candidate.

He is currently serving as a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, representing Obingwa West Constituency. Erondu won the primary election held on May 16, 2026, across 65 electoral wards in six local government areas of Abia South, with his mandate confirmed by the APC National Working Committee and witnessed by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

He received a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the primary election results on June 30, 2026. Erondu expressed concern over reports of his name being replaced by Paul Ikonne, emphasizing that such a substitution violates the Electoral Act, 2026, which permits name changes only under specific circumstances.

He called on the APC National Working Committee and INEC to adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act.
