Aguocha Faces Political Backlash for Kanu Advocacy

Aguocha, a member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, revealed that he is enduring significant political repercussions for his outspoken support for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He highlighted the persistent demand for Kanu's release and noted that his advocacy has led to a loss of political profile, but he has no regrets about his stance.

Aguocha criticized leaders from the South East for allegedly avoiding discussions about Kanu's detention and called for greater courage and unity among regional leaders to tackle the challenges facing the Igbo people. He urged them to emulate the approach of Yoruba leaders, such as Sunday Igboho, in coordinating efforts for Kanu's release.

Aguocha commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for mobilizing South East governors towards advocating for Kanu's release, describing this as a positive development that could galvanize broader support. He also mentioned that he is not able to defeat Benjamin Kalu in the upcoming 2027 governorship election.
