Maikaba Denies Flying Eagles Appointment Amid NFF Review

Abdu Maikaba, a former coach of Wikki Tourists, has stated that he has not received an official appointment as the head coach of Nigeria's U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, despite reports suggesting otherwise. In a telephone interview, Maikaba confirmed that he applied for the position but has not been informed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about any official decision.

The NFF's technical committee is currently reviewing applications for several national team coaching roles, including the recent appointments of new backroom staff for the U-17 women's team, led by Akeem Busari and Mose Aduku, who will oversee the U-20 women's team, the Falconets. Additionally, former Super Eagles stars Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi are reportedly interested in the U-23 national team job ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games qualification.

The NFF is expected to announce various coaching appointments soon, as Nigeria, a five-time FIFA U-17 World Cup winner, has failed to qualify for two consecutive tournaments.
