Imo Govt Bans Graduation Parties For Nursery, JSS3 Pupils

The Imo State Government has issued a directive banning graduation parties for nursery and JSS3 pupils. Commissioner of Education, Bernard Ikegwuoha, stated that the measure is part of a new policy to promote stability and efficiency in the education sector.

The memo, dated August 15, 2025, also prohibits frequent changes in textbooks, which are described as financially draining for families. Ikegwuoha emphasized that only Primary 6 and SS3 pupils are allowed to attend graduation ceremonies, and schools must adhere to an approved list of textbooks for at least four years to allow siblings to reuse them.

The commissioner warned school proprietors, especially those in private schools, against arbitrary changes and stated that the ministry would monitor compliance and sanction any defaulters.
