Indian Wells Apologizes for Williams and Fernandez Error

The Indian Wells Tennis Tournament has apologized following a clerical error that resulted in Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez missing out on the women's doubles draw. The tournament organizers failed to certify the wildcard entry for the duo ahead of the draw, which was already completed.

Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion at 45 years old, was eliminated in the first round of the singles tournament, while Fernandez lost to Katerina Siniakova in the second round. The organizers expressed regret over the situation, particularly for fans who were eager to see the pair compete together this year.

Last year, Williams and Fernandez reached the U.S. Open quarter-finals before losing to Taylor Townsend and Siniakova.

Despite this setback, Williams will participate in mixed doubles with American partner Christian Harrison, while Fernandez will team up with Australian John Peers.
