INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline to July 14, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced an extension for the submission of candidate lists for the 2027 presidential and national assembly elections. The new deadline is set for midnight on July 14, 2026, an extension from the original deadline of July 11, 2026.

This decision was made in response to an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which indicated that some political parties were unable to upload the necessary candidate details by the initial deadline. INEC's chairman, Mohan Kudu Haruna, stated that the extension aims to provide political parties with a fair opportunity to complete their nomination processes.

The commission emphasized its commitment to conducting an inclusive electoral process while adhering to legal provisions. Political parties are encouraged to utilize this additional time to ensure all required candidate details are submitted before the new deadline expires.
