INEC begins vote sorting across Osun as 2026 gubernatorial election concludes

The Independent National Electoral Commission has started tabulating ballots in Osun State following the conclusion of voting in the August 15 governorship…

The Independent National Electoral Commission commenced sorting and counting ballots across Osun State immediately after voting concluded on August 15, 2026, in the state's gubernatorial contest. Election officials at polling units began organising ballot papers by political party and candidate designation before proceeding with the formal count of votes cast by accredited voters.

The process unfolded under observation by party representatives, election monitors, and other stakeholders who attended polling stations to witness the tabulation. At Polling Unit 39 in Ward 4, Osogbo Local Government Area, INEC staff were documented executing the sorting and counting procedure in line with established electoral protocols.

Results tallied at individual polling units are being recorded on standardised result sheets in accordance with electoral guidelines. These unit-level results are scheduled for public announcement at their respective polling locations before transmission through the broader reporting chain.

The exercise occurred as Governor Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent, pursues re-election in the contest. Early indications from certain polling units suggested competitive positioning among participating candidates, though comprehensive statewide results had not yet been consolidated at the time of reporting.
