INEC Chairman Prof. Amupitan Commits to Credible Elections

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), described his appointment as “a call to service” and stressed the importance of commitment, integrity, and impartiality in managing Nigeria’s electoral process.

During a courtesy visit from Amb. Akenson Rotimi, President-General of the Okun Development Association (ODA), at INEC's headquarters in Abuja, Amupitan expressed gratitude for the Okun community's prayers and support, which he noted had been a source of strength throughout his tenure.

He acknowledged the challenges posed by misinformation in the digital age and reaffirmed INEC's commitment to fulfilling its constitutional mandate professionally. Amupitan also mentioned that the demands of his role had prevented him from visiting his hometown since taking office.

Amb. Rotimi congratulated Amupitan on his appointment, recognizing it as a well-deserved acknowledgment of his integrity and competence, and assured him of the continued support of the Okun people in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
