INEC Warns Against Misinformation Threatening Elections

On Thursday, Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), addressed the growing challenges posed by misinformation and the misuse of emerging technologies that could undermine public confidence in the electoral process. This statement was made during a courtesy visit to the Arewa Youth Forum (AYF), led by its Board Trustee Chairman, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, at INEC's headquarters in Abuja.

Amupitan urged citizens to rely on verified information from official INEC channels and encouraged the involvement of young people and civic organizations in promoting democracy. He expressed appreciation for the AYF's commitment to strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria.

The discussion included preparations for upcoming elections and strategies to enhance voter education, particularly at the grassroots level. The AYF pledged support for INEC's efforts and proposed establishing a feedback mechanism to document observations during elections, aiming to promote civic participation and public trust in the electoral process.
