INEC Chairman Urges Staff Discipline for Elections

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has called on staff to uphold discipline in preparation for the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun.

He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, aiming to combat voter apathy and restore public trust in the electoral process. This directive was part of a special Eid el-Fitr message issued on April 21, 2023, by Chief Press Secretary Adedayo Oketola.

Amupitan highlighted the recent enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates stricter adherence to technological innovations, including the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV). He noted that the upcoming elections would serve as a litmus test for electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With a workforce of 14,000, Amupitan reaffirmed that staff welfare remains a central pillar of his leadership, emphasizing the need for professionalism and integrity within the commission.
