INEC Clears Four Parties for Nasarawa North By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared four political parties to participate in the Nasarawa North senatorial by-election set for June 20. Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Nasarawa State, announced this on Wednesday in Lafia.

The parties cleared include the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party. The primary elections for these parties are scheduled to take place between May 22 and May 26, with the campaign period running from June 10 to June 18.

INEC will monitor the campaigns to ensure compliance with the Electoral Act and relevant regulations. Sadiq also mentioned that a total of 338,042 registered voters were captured during the 2023 general elections, and the ongoing voter registration exercise will continue until August 2025.

He expressed confidence that INEC is prepared to conduct a free, fair, and credible by-election.
