INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. The new deadline is set for midnight on July 14, 2026, extended from the previous deadline of July 11, 2026.

This decision was made following a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which appealed on behalf of political parties that had not completed the necessary uploads of candidate details by the initial deadline. Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the chairman of the voter education committee at INEC, explained that the extension aims to promote inclusivity in the electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the law.

INEC emphasized the importance of political parties utilizing this additional time to ensure all required information is uploaded before the new deadline.
