INEC Extends Voter Registration Deadline to July 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the nationwide voter registration exercise, which will now conclude on July 24, 2026. This decision follows a review of ongoing registration feedback from state offices, political parties, and civil society organizations.

The registration process commenced on August 18, 2025, and was initially scheduled to end on July 10, 2026. INEC's Chairman, Moham Kudu Haruna, stated that the extension aims to provide additional opportunities for eligible citizens who have not yet registered.

Furthermore, INEC introduced an online self-service voter registration platform, which will be operational from July 8, 2026. This platform allows eligible first-time voters to initiate and complete their registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices without needing to visit INEC offices.

The system is designed to ensure robust identity verification and safeguard the credibility and accuracy of the national voter register.
