77 Senators Secure Re-election Tickets for 2027 Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the January 16, 2027 elections, revealing that 77 out of 109 serving senators in the current 10th National Assembly have secured re-election tickets from various political parties. This marks an increase from 55 senators who initially received return tickets after party primaries in May.

Notable senators who will be re-contesting include Saliu Mustapha for Kwara Central on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, Musa Garba for Kebbi South on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Abdul Ningi for Bauchi Central on the ADC platform. The list indicates that while at least one senator from each state succeeded in obtaining a ticket, none of the three serving senators from Nasarawa State received return tickets due to gubernatorial ambitions.

Additionally, three senators, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Sharafadeen Alli, and Aliyu Wadada Ahmed, are gubernatorial candidates for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in their respective states.
