INEC Confirms Oluyede as PDP Candidate for Ekiti Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed Oluyede as the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Ekiti governorship election set for June 20. This decision follows a judgment from the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, which mandated INEC to recognize Oluyede's candidacy after his name was initially excluded from the candidate list published in January.

The ruling, delivered on March 12, was a unanimous decision by a three-member panel led by Justice Peter Chudi Obiorah, which set aside a previous ruling by the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti that nullified the PDP primary election that produced Oluyede. The panel determined that the primary election complied with the provisions of the party's constitution and the Electoral Act.

Oluyede, a medical expert, emerged as the PDP governorship candidate during the party's primary election held in November, securing 279 votes against his closest rival, Funso Ayeni, who received 239 votes.
