INEC Plans Mock Election and Tech Audit for 2027 Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, is contemplating a mock presidential election and a comprehensive audit of its electoral technology systems as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

This proposal was disclosed during a meeting with Dr. Richard Montgomery from the British High Commission Nigeria.

The mock election aims to simulate the electoral process, assess the performance of electoral technology, and identify areas needing improvement. It is part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

Additionally, INEC plans to conduct a thorough audit of its technology systems, focusing on cybersecurity measures and infrastructure reliability. Although the proposed initiatives are not currently included in INEC's budget, the commission is exploring options for implementation.

The UK has pledged support for Nigeria's electoral preparations, emphasizing the importance of credible elections as part of their strategic partnership.
