INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Until After 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the postponement of the nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections. Initially set to commence on April 13, 2026, the exercise was intended to enhance the integrity of Nigeria's electoral process by removing ineligible entries, including deceased individuals, non-Nigerians, underage voters, and those with multiple registrations.

INEC clarified that this exercise is not a fresh registration but part of ongoing efforts to update and clean the voter register, ensuring accuracy and credibility ahead of future elections. Mohammed Haruna, the chairman of the voter education committee, stated that the decision to postpone was made during a recent meeting of the Resident Electoral Commission.

The commission remains committed to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an accurate national voter register.
