INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Until 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the postponement of the nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections. This decision was communicated by INEC Chairman Prof.

Joash Amupitan and aims to enhance the integrity of Nigeria's electoral process by removing ineligible entries, such as deceased individuals, non-Nigerians, underage voters, and multiple registrations. The exercise was initially set to commence on April 13, 2026, and conclude on May 29, 2026.

However, during a meeting of the Resident Electoral Commission, it was resolved to delay the exercise. Moham Haruna, the Chairman of the Voter Education Committee, emphasized that the revalidation is a critical component of INEC's mandate to maintain a credible voter register.

Additionally, Prof. Amupitan clarified that he does not operate any social media accounts and dismissed false claims regarding his endorsement of partisan posts, labeling them as baseless and malicious.
