INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Until 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of its nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections. This decision was communicated by INEC Chairman Mohammed Haruna in a statement released on Friday, April 10, 2026.

The postponement follows deliberations during a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commission (REC). The voter revalidation exercise is deemed a critical component of INEC's mandate to maintain the credibility of the national voter register.

The exercise aims to verify and review existing voter records to ensure the accuracy of personal data, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the overall integrity of the voter registration process. INEC remains committed to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections.
