INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Until After 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of the nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections. This decision was made during a meeting held on Friday, where the commission reviewed electoral matters.

INEC Chairman Moham Haruna informed the voter education committee about this resolution. The voter revalidation exercise is considered crucial for maintaining an accurate and credible national voter register, allowing registered voters to verify their records and update necessary details.

Despite the postponement, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections. A letter dated April 4, signed by Secretary Rose Oriaran Anthony, directed the Resident Electoral Commission to suspend public arrangements for the voter revalidation exercise and to prepare for its eventual commencement.

INEC expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by this change and emphasized that the exercise was initially scheduled to begin on April 13, 2026, as part of efforts to update the voter register ahead of the 2027 elections.
