NDC Defends Mrs Epelle-Asemota Amid INEC Publication Error

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a statement on Wednesday, asserting that an error in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) publication of candidates does not affect its choice of candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District. The party's Director of New Media and Strategic Communication, Agada Abuh Theophilus, confirmed that Mrs Epelle-Asemota Bridgitte Osayuki remains the officially sponsored candidate for the senatorial election.

Although INEC published her name and details correctly, it mistakenly attached another aspirant's photograph and credentials. The NDC emphasized that they submitted Mrs Epelle-Asemota’s name, photograph, and credentials in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

They stated that under the law, she is the duly recognized candidate. The party has provided evidence of the successful upload of her details and called on INEC to clarify the error.

Additionally, the NDC condemned an organized campaign questioning her candidacy on ethnic grounds, asserting her Nigerian citizenship and Benin ancestry.
